daylight saving time

I don't like it.

The first time in my life I have ever had to participate in this ritual was last Sunday morning. We're on day three now and my kids still haven't adjusted. They wake up at 6:15 am now instead of 7:15, want to eat lunch at 10 am, instead of 11, and are tired and cranky monsters at 7 pm instead of 8. How do the rest of you cope with this?

Kids' schedules + daylight saving time = NO GOOD!

Jon keeps asking me why I think it's such a big deal "You act as though you've never changed time zones before!" Yes I have, while on vacation, which usually means there is a grandma around to play with my kids when they get up with the sun. Last evening I was on my way home from the grocery store, with all the kids in tow and I called my sister to complain that it was pitch black outside at 5:30 pm.

In my normal fasion, I wanted to find out everything I could about daylight saving time: Does the whole world do it? Why? When was it first implemented in the US? Like I mentioned in my post about leaves changing color, I feel like I'm the only one in the dark about this. As if those of you who have participated in this time changing thing your whole lives know exactly why you are doing it. As usual, after researching it a bit on the internet, I realize that it's complicated, political, controversial, etc. But this time I don't have the desire or energy to explain what I learned about it, I'm too tired from dealing with my kids' non-adjusted schedules. So I will just say that I don't like it and can't wait until I don't have to deal with it anymore- which means I'll have to live in either Arizona or Hawaii. I'm okay with those options.

Those options sound pretty great to me too. I'll say it again-- don't conform! Stay on your regular schedule!

Growing up in Louisiana I was always confused by daylight savings time..it never really made sense to me..I especially hated it when you LOSE a hour of sleep! Who's idea was that!? I thought moving to Arizona would cure all my confusing but I still have to remember the time change so I don't call my parents at midnight! Good luck!

it's good to know hawaii doesn't do it either, just in case we get tired of AZ:) but i definitely think you guys should come back here:) it is kind of a pain and i thought it was instituted with all the farming and such that went on a long time ago and why do we still do it? the world may never know...

I agree with you! I have never had to do it until we moved to CA! It is stupid and it stinks! Down with day light savings!!

From what I've heard it was Ben Franklin's idea if another blogger posted correctly. My understanding was it was supposed to allow us more daylight to get things done, you know in the morning time? You almost missed this event...You should've moved to another I state--Indiana doesn't do it either.

Daylight savings time...it's gunna give me more time to have fun with my baby...oooh dayling savings time it's gunna give me more time to have fun with my baby...ooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Some lyrics from my favorite tune celebrating the beginning of daylight savings time.

When we go off daylight savings time we sing: "no more daylight savings time, there's no dang time to have fun with my baby, or anything else, it's too stinking dark!"

Ben Franklin's idea. To save candles. :) And, we kept it to save electricity. Which is why (I think) Arizona doesn't participate...having more daylight waking hours would actually use more electricity with all the A/C going on.

Anyway, I like it. I do not like the week of the change, but once we're all used to it, I don't mind. I especially like it in the summer so my kids don't get up at 5:00 am with the sun. I hated that part of Arizona. :)

If you hate what it's doing to your schedule now, you'll hate it 20 times more come spring. :D

Yup Mike told me it was good ole Benjamin Franklin. Your post is SO Funny because I was going to write the same thing. . . we have the same friends though, so I don't think they need to hear complaints twice :)

In high school I LOVED it (in the fall) because I got to sleep in. I will have to say though my kids are back to normal. Probably because we have been sick and they have wanted to sleep. Good luck!

Oh and the opera guy, I think it was Isaac's nice way of saying he wasn't too impressed. We watch American Idol too and he likes to say if they were good enough or not. Uh oh. . . I think I am teaching him to be judgmental at the age of two :)

I'm so excited to hear that you loved Into the Wild..Christopher listened to the book on cd and he really liked it too. Unfortunately, I am like 40th in line at the library for it so we keep putting it off for book club. Christopher keeps telling me to just listen to it but I'm not that kind of reader..I lose concentration so fast!
I'm so excited now to read Into the Wild though..if I ever get it!
